ELECTRONIC DESIGN LINE MODULAR UNITS
The Electronic Design Line (EDL).
Modular units offer infinite possibilities into
the world of hands-on electrical experiments. Each unit can be used
independently or in conjunction with other units to create exciting, visual
demonstrations. Instructions are provided for each module, plus the
EDL Packs are supplied with special instruction booklets containing instructions
for collective experiments.
#1207-1 EDL Power Board.
The base of all the EDL units is electrical power.
You can supply your own or use this convenient D. C. power unit for supplying
3, 6 or 9 volt D.C. current.
#1207-2 EDL Lamp & Switch.
This is a SPST knife switch that opens and closed
the circuit of a 3 or 6 volt lamp.
#1207-3 EDL Motor & Reversible Switch.
This 3 volt D. C. motor can be used with many
mechanical-electrical experiments or used in conjunction with the reversible
switch. Thrown one way the motor will run clockwise and thrown the
other way the motor will run counter clockwise. The switch can also
be used independently in other experiments.
#1207-4 EDL Heat & Magnetic Switch.
The thermostat on this unit can be used to either
open or close a circuit by heat. The magnetic switch has normally
open contacts that close when a magnet is brought near.
#1207-5 EDL Transformer.
This mounted transformer is designed to demonstrate
how voltage can be either stepped up or down. Input voltage must
be either A.C. or pulsating D.C. current. You can use your own power
supply or try the EDL Electromagnetic Solenoid and Pulsator.
#1207-6 EDL Electromagnetic Solenoid & Pulsator.
Illustrate electromagnetism and polarity.
Connect the spring arm and contacts for constructing a working relay or
use this item to pulsate D.C. current so that it can be used in an A.C.
transformer such as the EDL Transformer.
#1207-7 EDL Resistance Set.
Use an ohm meter to demonstrate the difference
in resistance or to teach the standard color code of resistors. Hook
up the potentiometer for a variable resistance ranging from 0 to 150,000
ohms. This unit can also be incorporated into many of your own experiments
as well as used in several EDL experiments such as a solar alarm using
the EDL Buzzer and Contact Switch and EDL Solar Cell.
#1207-8 EDL Buzzer & Contact Switch.
This unit can be used for many experiments requiring
a 6 volt buzzer or a momentary closed switch. By supplying power,
you can hook the key switch to the buzzer to create a sounding device for
practicing Morse code. You can also connect two units together to
send Morse code to each other.

#1207-14 EDL Demonstration Fuse.
Simple and visual. This EDL consists of two clips
in which a piece of steel wool is stretched. When excess voltage
is applied to the fahnstock clips the steel wool instantly burns, which
opens the circuit. The distance between the clips can be varied as
well as the number of strands of steel wool, thus changing the fuses voltage
rating.

This meter is built from a high quality, liquid dampening compass.

#1253 Magneto Generator.
The field of this magneto consists of a single Alnico magnet which
has a strong magnetic flux density. Capable of producing higher voltages
then cobalt-steel magnets. Although field intensity cannot be changed,
magneto produces an equivalent of greater current than cobalt-steel types.
Generator is mounted on 7 5/8"" x 12"" wood base with incandescent lamp
and socket used as a load. Two binding posts are placed on the board

This model of both an AC and DC motor is quick to put together and

With this unit both alternating & direct current can be demonstrated.
By turning the handle the current that is produced can be seen as it lights

#1852 The One Handed Generator.
This simple generator can be operated with one hand, and will generate
up to ten volts. Moderate cranking speeds will generate approximately
5.5 volts D.C.. The alligator clips on the end of the connection
cords provide a convenient hook up to any electrical device. The
units transparent casing also allows for viewing of the inside workings
of the generator during operation.
#1853 DC Generator
This pistol grip style handle generator can be utilized with almost
any experiment requiring up to 12 volt DC current. Housed in tough
clear plastic. This unit is not only funtional but cost about half
of that of similar models. This generator can also be used as a hand
generated flashlight due to the mounted lamp on the end or use the binding
post to connect an outside electrical circuit.
#1857 St. Louis Motor
The St. Louis Motor is useful in demonstrating the operations of a
DC motor. The motor consists of a 2 pole armature mounted between
magnets. The steel supports are mounted on a ridged plastic base.

#1858 DC Motor Kit
This kit allows students to build their own DC motor from scratch.
All of the needed parts are included along with a detailed instructions
manual. The unit is 7.5"" x 9"" x 5"" after assembled and runs on
one AA battery.
#1440 Primary & Secondary Coil.
Used to study electromagnetic induction & transformer principles.
The outer coil is 4 1/2"" tall and 2 3/4"" in diameter. The inner
coil is 3 3/4"" tall and 1 1/4"" in diameter. The removable steel
core with handle is 1/2"" in diameter and 5 1/2"" tall. All coils

RESISTANCE APPARATUS
#1800-4 Resistance Board.
Made of 1/8"" Clear Acrylic with 20 mounted resistors. The Resistor
Board sets both vertically and horizontally for ease of use. The
board is made of 1/8"" acrylic for over head projection use. The
resistors, 20 in all, are spaced slightly above the board for cooling purposes.
Each resistor is also equipped with both a black and red thumb nut for
easy connections. The unit contains the following resistors: two

#1800-5 Resistors, Mounted.
Variable resistor values. Securely mounted for class use.
These six wire-wound resistors ranging form 5 to 1000 ohm are mounted on
a 10 x 15 cm base and are rated at 5 watts. Connecting nuts attached
to the ends of each resistor make connections easy. The resistors value
is hidden from view. The students try to asses the value of the resistance.
Useful when coupled with a Wheatstone Bridge.

A multi-resistor box with resistance ranging form 0 to 999 ohm.
Coils calibrated to accuracy of 0.2%. Coils have noninductive windings
so box is acceptable in both DC and AC experiments. All coils firmly

SOLENOID
#1850-1 Solenoid/Electromagnet with Core.
Used for many demonstrations involving electric magnets or solenoid.
A plastic spool is wrapped with three layers of 20 gauge magnet wire.
Insulated binding posts are located at each end for connection. Included
is a 3/4" x 6" steel core. Instruction sheet provided.
#1824 Solenoid, with Mount.
A pre-wound solenoid and steel core with a back mounting block.
The 3/4"" core has a threaded hook for attaching a spring or a cord.
This can be used for creating mechanical movement or demonstrating the
increase of magnetism in relationship to power. Mounting block accepts
up to 1/2"" rod.
#2007 Thermostat Model.
The thermostat unit demonstrates the control of temperature or electric
currents by deferential expansion of metals. The bimetallic strip
mounted on a cast iron base can be used to open or close an electric circuit
with varying changes in temperature. Instructions provided.
#2010 Transformation of Energy Apparatus.
Demonstrates the transformation of mechanical energy into electrical
energy, light, heat and sound energy. Mechanical energy is induced
into this unit through a high quality Alnico magnet generator. Through
the use of knife switches, the current can be directed to an electric bell,
lamp and socket, 110V induction motor with propeller, or any combination
of the three. Feel the difference in the drag of the generator as
the switches are opened and closed. The entire unit is mounted on

#409 Dissectible Transformer.
This unit encompasses both a U-Core and an I-Core. The transformer
plates are made from grain oriented steel. The recommended power
source is a maximum of 12 volts, 3 amps. Included are 2 coils, 1-100
turns, 1-200 turns and an instruction manual.
VOLTAIC CELL
#1822 Standard Voltaic Cell
The voltaic cell is ideal for demonstrating the characteristics of
a primary cell. The cells cup is clear so you can easily view the
electro-chemical reactions taking place. The top rim is made of heavy
molded plastic with sturdy nickel plated clamps designed to hold both round
and flat electrodes. A porous cup is also included. The unit
measures 95mm diameter x 120mm height. Instructions provided.

Supplied with 8 electrodes, one each flat aluminum, copper, brass,
iron, zinc, nickel, tin and one round carbon electrode.
